The intense heat continues. I hope you are all doing well.
The day I was diagnosed with ALS was also a hot day. Five years have passed since that day. It has been exactly four years since I established the foundation. I believe that by helping others, I am saved myself. With that conviction, I have continued to work tirelessly. Everything was a first for me, and I’ve taken quite a few detours along the way. Supported by the connections I’ve made, I’ve gradually been able to accomplish things that I could never have achieved on my own. Both patients and their families tend to feel despair, confusion, and a tendency to withdraw immediately after receiving a diagnosis.
Driven by the desire to first bring patients and families in such situations back out into the world, we launched our “Electric Wheelchair Rental Support Program,” and last year we were also able to unveil “Yumebasu.” At the same time, we’ve been gathering and sharing news about new drug developments from around the world, and participating in lectures and events to raise awareness of ALS among as many people as possible. This fiscal year, as we mark the foundation’s fifth anniversary, we plan to carry out activities centered on the theme of “home care.” In addition to our long-standing guiding principle of “what we can do for patients,” we also intend to place greater emphasis on “what we can do because we are patients.” We have already established partnerships with pharmaceutical companies and educational institutions, and we look forward to taking our activities to a new level with fresh perspectives.
